The majority is electric or acoustic guitar, but bass lessons are also available. Both right and left handed players are catered for.
When do you teach and how long are lessons?
Tuition times are weekdays from 3pm until 9pm. As tuition is booked in 30 minute slots a lesson can be as long as you wish (subject to availability), although usually lessons are either 30 minutes or 1 hour long and are taken on either a weekly or fortnightly basis.
Please contact Guitology for lesson availability.
How much are lessons?
Lessons are £10 per 30 minutes and can be paid for either at the start of each lesson or in advance for block bookings.
What will I need to bring to lessons?
All you need is your instrument and a bucket load of enthusiasm. Tuners, amps, effects, and cables are provided and for those thinking of starting out on the guitar, acoustic, electric and bass guitars are available to borrow from Guitology during lessons - however, it is advisable to have your own instrument in order to practice in between lessons. Should you need advice on purchasing an instrument and the necessary peripherals, please feel free to contact Guitology, or check out a useful guide to buying your first guitar here.
What will I learn about?
Rooted firmly in contemporary music - with a leaning toward pop, rock and indie - lessons are tailored to the student’s ability, aims and requirements. At the heart of lessons with Guitology is a focus on the development of key skills such as technical ability and knowledge of music theory and their practical application through learning to play a variety of contemporary music, as well as your favourite songs. All the necessary sheet music, tablature, practice sheets and theory notes are provided, as well as CDs with audio examples and a variety of backing tracks to practice with. At key stages of development, students are encouraged to creatively apply their skills through writing and recording their own music, which is then mastered to CD and given to the student to keep as a record of their progression.
For the beginner, lessons will start with the basics such as tuning, easy chords and easy songs. Once the basics are covered it’s onward and upward, developing your playing skills and theory in order to achieve your guitaring goals. For those with more experience on the guitar, we will identify the areas of your playing/theory that you wish to improve and work on your aims from there.
Helping to make learning the guitar fun and easy to understand is paramount in the delivery of lessons - especially to those just starting out on the guitar - so everything is in good old fashioned plain English and accompanied with a smile.
So you’ll turn me into a guitar god overnight?
Er, no. Unfortunately, like most things in life, a bit of graft is required in order to receive positive results. This means you have to practice and the more practice you do, the better you’ll get. For some, playing the guitar comes naturally and progression can appear swift. For most of us it takes a little more time and patience, but with regular good practice you should notice the results after a few weeks.
